This is the latest in my series of drawings done in my over sized moleskin sketch pad. Its also the first non-colour drawing for a few months. I had intended to add colour but as the image became more detailed I found that it was probably best left in ink only.
The composition is based on a publicity still from David Tennant's Hamlet. I thought it was a beautifully composed shot, with the mother figure creating an organic frame for the actor's troubled head.
For me personally, I feel that there is an almost religious quality to image, you see, the male figure could be seen to represent Jesus in the embrace of his mother having come to realize the nature of the ordeals that he will have to go through for his father.
Certainly a dark revelation has been made to the hero, one that he knows that he will have not choice but to face as its his destiny. Yet as the hero he doubts whether or not he has the courage and strength to undertake his challenge and requires the caress of his light feminine persona to discover what lies within.
Regardless of interpretation I rather enjoyed drawing this one.
I like this new one very much. A very passionate and well executed drawing!
